August 3rd, 2024, The Struts and opener Barns Country were scheduled to take on the Stone Pony Summer Stage in Asbury Park, New Jersey. However, that wasn’t the only thing scheduled for the night. A series of thunderstorms were on their way and expected to interrupt the show. Despite this warning, The Struts were determined to play.
Earlier in the day, the time of the show had been uncertain and changed, however once at the venue, things became even more uncertain. As the sky darkened and lightning began to strike nearby, security decided to push opening doors until further notice, with an estimate of the show starting at 9:00. Fans became visibly nervous and started to gather by security. They continuously asked when the show might start because of their excitement.
At that same time, the sky roared with a downpour of rain and thunder. Fans alike pulled out their ponchos and tried to press against the wall of the Stone Pony, determined to not lose their spot in line.
When the rain began to die down, security came back outside and opened the gates of the venue, allowing fans inside. Not long after, The Struts took the stage with an electric opening of “Roll Up.” As they continued through their set with songs from “Everybody Wants,” “YOUNG&DANGEROUS”, and “Pretty Vicious,” lead singer, Luke Spiller announced to fans that they could only play three more songs as storms had been detected nearby. They closed off the show with “Could Have Been Me,” their most famous song.
Even though they weren’t able to play their entire set for Stone Pony Summer Stage, the Struts were able to give fans an unforgettable night and stellar performance. Their tour is set to continue throughout the United States, and then go to Europe and the United Kingdom, but they promised fans they would come back to the Stone Pony for another show soon.
