Kicking off their United States tour, An Evening With The Pretenders, The Pretenders took the stage at the Hackensack Meridian Health Theater in Red Bank, New Jersey on July 13th, 2024. As fans entered the building, you could feel the excitement in the room grow. The volume got louder and louder, and eventually the room was packed. It was a full house. However, shortly after the lights dimmed, the room went quiet, and The Pretenders took the stage.
With no supporting act, The Pretenders opened the show with “Losing My Sense of Taste” and were welcomed with a roar of applause. This totally energized the room and set the mood for the evening. Chrissie Hynde walked onto the stage in her classic black boots, blue jeans, and blue guitar alongside her bandmates.
As The Pretenders continued through their set, the energy in the room built. Fans got out of their seats to dance to the music and sang along. A warm, intimate atmosphere was created with everyone present in the moment. Many of the songs played were from their debut album, Pretenders, and Relentless.
About halfway through the night, the band surprised audience members with two live debuts of new songs. They were titled, “I Think About You Daily” and “Merry Widow.”
It’s no exaggeration to say the rest of their tour will be an absolute success. Many of their United States shows are already sold out, and shortly after, they are set to embark on a United Kingdom tour. They’ll have a supporting act, The Picturebooks, opening for them with most of those shows sold out too, and it’s clear why. The Pretenders have continued to be rock legends since the 80s and have released twelve albums. Over the years, although their band members have changed, their music remains sought out by fans.
