On April 25th 2024, Nothing More brought their North American tour to San Diego, Ca at the North Park Observatory. The Grammy-Nominated group was supported by Memphis based rock band Sleep Theory and heavy metalcore musicians Veil of Maya. The trio of bands led to a night of skilled musicianship and elated fans.
The Sleep Theory wolf backdrop could be seen as the group took the stage. Vocalist Cullen Moore’s commanding presence is evident throughout the set. It’s clear that the group has had a successful breakout year as the fans are quite familiar with the setlist. Closely mirroring their studio sound, the band successfully primed the crowd for the rest of the night.
Next in the mix, Veil of Maya took the stage and promptly opened the pit. Impressive riffs and heavy vocals echoed in the venue as crowd surfers came over the barricade. Lukas Magyar seamlessly transitioned from guttural growls to clean vocals throughout the performance. Veil of Maya’s energy was a turning point for the crowd. Sleep Theory had the crowd singing and Veil of Maya got them moving from start to finish.
A buzz of anticipation filled the air as the lights dimmed and Kiss From a Rose by Seal played through the speakers. Nothing More took the stage in a whirlwind of energy. From the moment they stepped onto the stage, the Texas-based rockers captivated the crowd with their raw talent and massive stage presence.
Kicking off the set with their single “If It Doesn’t Hurt ” Nothing More set the tone for an unforgettable evening. A barefoot and shirtless Jonny Hawkins commanded the stage with his powerful vocals, effortlessly transitioning from melodic highs to memorable screams, while also showcasing his impressive drumming skills throughout the performance. Jonny displayed his unique body paint that has transformed throughout the tour.
Guitarist Mark Vollelunga, bassist Daniel Oliver, and drummer Ben Anderson delivered tight, electrifying performances. Their chemistry was palpable, as they navigated through their discography, from the new hard-hitting single “HOUSE ON SAND” to the hauntingly beautiful “Fade In/Fade Out.”
Jonny noted just before playing "Jenny," a song written for his sister and fan favorite, that his nephew was in attendance and could be seen front row as the crowd cheered for him.
The night came to a close with an explosive last song (not an encore) as this band doesn’t do encores, they do last songs and they leave it all on the stage. They closed the set with "This Is The Time (Ballast)", a fan favorite, and it was clear that Nothing More had left a permanent mark on everyone in attendance. With their infectious energy and heartfelt lyrics, Nothing More proved once again why they are one of the most captivating bands in rock music today. Check out their upcoming album 'CARNAL' on June 28th.
