COIN is not afraid of Florida anymore!

By Helena Tankosic

After about two years since their last official tour, the indie-rock band COIN has finally returned, this time bringing with them Tampa local, Aiden Bissett to open the show! This was my first time seeing Aiden perform and he gave a great performance - it’s understandable why he was signed to Capitol Records at the age of 18! For only being a three-piece, they filled the venue with so much energy, which made their performance stick out to me even more. I find that most of the time that’s extremely difficult to achieve, so kudos to them! Bissett finished off his set with one of his most popular songs, “Tripping Over Air”,  which left everyone excited and pumped up for COIN to take the stage.

Opening the set with the first song off of their new album, “It’s Hard to Care About Everyone”, the crowd absolutely exploded into cheers and screams. It’s clear that Florida fans missed COIN very much. As a long-time fan of this band, I can proudly say that COIN and Florida go very well together - even their lead singer, Chase Lawrence, admitted that towards the end of the show. The Nashville native band played songs from their discography throughout the night, old and new songs alike. Every single song had the crowd screaming the lyrics and wondering which song was going to be next. The band expressed that they had a lack of inspiration and kept hitting roadblocks while trying to write and release their latest album. They talked about feeling burnt out. However, they said that through this album they started to look at things closer and deeper than before and that finally, things started looking simpler. Now they have enough songs that they could’ve written a double album. It was very clear on this tour that they look more like themselves, especially after COVID-19. Chase looked back on the Dreamland tour that started right before the COVID-19 pandemic and said that the Orlando show, which was the last show before they found out that the world was going to shut down, had such a similar feeling to the show that night at Jannus Live. For some reason, it felt special that night and he couldn’t explain it. It felt special to us too, Chase because COIN isn’t just a band - COIN is family.
