A lot of new artists have been breaking onto the music scene in recent years. These young artists show us the direction that music is headed, not only using inspiration from some of their favorite artists, but going places that other artists have never gone before. Introducing this month’s trifecta of up-and-coming artists in pop, rock, and indie music, we will be delving into the alt-pop band Dreamfone, the indie singer/songwriter Rachel Bochner, and the unique pop-rock band Senses.
Kicking off the features for this month, Dreamfone is a two-piece band made up of lead vocalist and guitarist Richie Arthur and lead guitarist Reece Alan. The duo has been creating alt-pop music since 2021 and put out their most recent album, postMANIC, in October 2023. You get a small glimpse of their personality from their Spotify profile, where their bio reads, "bios are boring." But, honestly, their music does all the talking. This band is definitely on the up-and-up, so you'll want to check them out if you haven't already.
Up next in our features is Rachel Bochner, an indie-pop artist out of New York City. She describes her music as being made "for the teenage girls in their twenties, lowkey lovergirls, and people who think 'Dress' by Taylor Swift was written about a woman." Rachel introduced herself to the world of music on the song, "Ocean Drive," in 2019, and subsequently, released her track, "Purple," in 2020. The singer/songwriter has consistently been releasing music since that first track, including her most popular (and iconic) song, "ghosted my therapist." The artist's latest release from August 2023 is her EP, It's Not Me, It's U filled with some moody hits. If songs that make you feel like a hot girl is your thing, now is the time to start streaming Rachel's music.
Closing out the features for January is the pop-rock band out of Los Angeles, Senses. The rock band creates music using dark synths, driving guitars, pounding drums, and unique storytelling. Their origin story begins with lead singer Madison Taylor and drummer Nick Sampson meeting via Craigslist. Shortly after their conception, the band released their first track, "The Comedown," in 2019, and have, since then, made huge accomplishments in the music industry, including releasing their debut EP, take me out of here, with producer Keith Varon, known for working with artists like Machine Gun Kelly, Travis Barker, The Aces, Nightly, and jxdn. They have also worked with producer and engineer Blake Harnage, known for working with Tate McRae and PVRIS. Their latest single, "playing dead," was released in October 2023, and is an absolute banger that was produced by Mike Pepe, known for working with Taking Back Sunday, HUDDY, As It Is, and Lil Lotus. Senses also started hitting the road, supporting artists like Carlie Hanson, Leah Kate, and Boys Like Girls on their tours in 2023. It's clear that this band is making moves in the music industry and will likely be everywhere soon, so now is the time to start blasting their songs in your car speakers.
Up-and-coming artists are the future of music, and we are excited to see how they innovate within the music industry on their journeys!
