On November 1st, Arkells brought The Big Feelings Feelings Tour to Rogers Place in Edmonton, Canada. Forming in 2006, Arkells is a well-known band from Hamilton, Ontario with 10 albums. Opening for them was the Los Angeles-based band, Poolside.
As the opener, Poolside began their set, the crowd cheered loudly with excitement for the openers. To start, one of the members played a solo on his saxophone as the intro for “Ride With You”. Other songs they sang were “Around the Sun” and “Can’t Stop Your Lovin’”. To finish off their set, they sang a cover of “Ghostbusters”. With a laid-back style of music, their set really highlighted all their different talents while also complementing each other.
At 9:00, the lights went dark as the band went on stage to start “Come To Light”, a song released in 2014. As the set continued, some of the songs they sang were “11:11”, “Quitting You”, and "Knocking At the Door”.
They also dedicated a song to a former ice hockey player who was in the crowd, singing “Dancing in the Dark” by Bruce Springsteen. After seeing a young girl sing along to all the songs, the lead vocalist, Max, brought her onstage to sing “Past Life” and her voice echoed throughout the venue.
Halfway through the set, they made it through the crowd to the B-stage setup that had a payphone in the middle and sang an acoustic version of “Nobody Gets Me Like You Do”. Toward the end of the set, they sang a couple of covers including “9 to 5” and “Dancing on My Own” and the crowd belted out these well-known songs. The final song they sang to close off the night was “Leather Jacket” and when they were finished, the crowd all cheered in applause.
The lighting throughout the entire set was incredibly done as it represented the band’s energy and music perfectly. The whole show was memorable, from their crowd engagement to their interaction, it shows how much they care about their fans.
Make sure you don't miss seeing them live!
